Accompany refugees with JRS this Lent
JRS is repeating its first successful Lenten journey piloted in 2017, where over 700 subscribers went on a journey with some of the refugees JRS accompanies, serves and advocates on behalf of.
Every day during Lent, the JRS UK e-mail will offer reflections on scripture from the day – either from the Mass readings or from the office of readings – alongside an action to support your Lenten observances. Across the weeks we will follow the experiences of a number of the refugees JRS accompanies and have prayerful reflections from Jesuits, including Mike Smith SJ and Frank Turner SJ.
Feedback from supporters who followed the JRS Lenten journey last year was overwhelmingly positive, one supporter said of the e-mails, “they are both informative and encouraging (especially when we witness the cheerful resilience of the JRS refugee friends).” Another supporter said, “Thank you so much for sharing the journey of some of your friends at the JRS. I really appreciated their stories and the strength, courage and Faith all of them shared.”
Another subscriber said, “thank you for the possibility of accompanying someone this Lent. It's certainly a new way of taking the road towards Easter. Your challenge to see how someone in much greater need than I…is inspiring and humbling!”
Megan Knowles, Communications and Development Manager at JRS UK said, “we decided to repeat the Lenten journey again as the e-mails were so well received last year. The e-mails are in essence an invitation to enter into a space of accompaniment and prayer as we prepare and anticipate the resurrection. In the resource this year, alongside journeying with our refugee friends, we will also hear from some JRS volunteers and their experiences of accompanying refugees. We hope this will add a new dimension to your prayer and preparation for Easter.”
