Steve Patterson SJ
In 2003, he moved to Loyola Hall Jesuit Spirituality Centre, for Regency, working as a member of the retreat team. This included studying the Spiritual Exercises, directing people on residential retreats, giving workshops at Loyola Hall or in schools and universities and also going out to give weeks of guided prayer to groups in the north west area. He was also involved in the area of vocations promotion - visiting schools and universities to present the work of the Jesuits and raise the question of vocation generally, as well as the specific vocation to be a Jesuit.
Steve then spent four years living in Spain, studying Theology at the Pontifical University of Comillas - a Jesuit-founded university in Madrid. It isn't unusual for a Jesuit to spend some of his formation outside of his own Province. Rather, it is encouraged as a way of experiencing another language and culture and as a preparation for future mission.
In March 2008, Steve was ordained to the diaconate in Madrid, then returned to Britain later that year and was ordained to the priesthood in November at the Jesuit church of St Francis Xavier in Liverpool. He is now working in pastoral ministry in Georgetown, Guyana.
