What happens when someone makes an enquiry about life as Jesuit?
What happens next will depend somewhat on the content of that conversation, but among the possible further steps are some more conversations, and the opportunity to learn more about the Society through a programme of reading, spiritual direction, meeting Jesuits, meeting others who are enquiring about life in the Society and making a guided retreat. In some cases it will be the Province Vocations Director who will guide the applicant further.
Eventually, when an individual has decided that he is very serious about making a formal application to join the Society - and when the Society is also convinced of the seriousness and suitability of the applicant - the Vocations Director will arrange for formal interviews to be carried out along with psychological testing, medical reports and references.
Ultimately it is for the Provincial to consider all of the available evidence and decide whether or not an applicant should be accepted, rejected or deferred.
