Faith Matters: Vatican II and the Joy of the Gospel
The Lent 2014 season of Faith Matters has been announced by the Mount Street Jesuit Centre and the Archdiocese of Westminster. Over four Thursday evenings in March and April, speakers will consider what the Church is for, 50 years after the Second Vatican Council and in the light of Pope Francis' apostolic exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium (the Joy of the Gospel).
Faith Matters 2014 will open on Thursday 13 March with a talk by Fr Philip Knights of Marychurch, Hatfield, entitled 'The Church is missionary: principles and practices since the Second Vatican Council'.
The following Thursday (20 March), Dr Gemma Simonds CJ of Heythrop College, University of London, will maintain in her talk that 'The Church is Feminine'; while Dr Helen Costigane SHCJ, also of Heythrop College, will be the speaker on Thursday 27 March. She will consider whether the Church really is 'The Church of the Poor'.
The Lent 2014 series of Faith Matters will conclude on 3 April with 'The Church amidst a secular culture', presented by Bishop John Sherrington of Westminster.
The Faith Matters talks will take place at Vaughan House, 46 Francis St, London SW1P 1QN, between 7.00pm and 8.30pm. Tea/coffee will be provided. Please register at http://rcdow.org.uk/events or email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 020 7931 6078. The suggested donation is £3.
