a vision of the world in which human beings, and particularly the poor and excluded, are called to become fully human

James Conway SJ

Why do I do it?   I can trace my interest in social and political issues as well as my awareness of 'justice issues' to my early teens - long before any notion of a Jesuit vocation made itself felt.

The intuition that God is caught up in our human relationships and implicated in the way we order and care for our world helps me understand my Christian faith as being inseparable from the struggle for justice and reconciliation in the world.

The Gospel helps me articulate a vision of the world in which human beings, and particularly the poor and excluded, are called to become fully human and to love life.

Communicating these Gospel values in a world that is increasingly complex and within a secularised culture calls for new and creative ways of witnessing to the Gospel.  It is challenging as the division between the minority of people who have power and wealth and the majority who are powerless and poor becomes bigger and, it seems, more accepted as the norm.
