St Francis Xavier's, Liverpool

Ken Vance SJ

Although there is no doubt that the city is on the up, our area has still to experience the benefits! Within a hundred metres of our house, twenty five lone-parent families attempt to bring up their children, four young people have been awarded ASBOs and you can buy any kind of drug you may fancy.  That being said, it is a great area to live, as the people are supportive and friendly, but - according to government statistics - they live in the most deprived area of the country.

That is why we are here.  If Jesuits are meant to take the 'option for the poor seriously' then - we are in the middle of it!
