Institute of Religion, Ethics and Public Life

The Institute also works in close association with the Woodstock Centre, Washington DC, concerned with providing spiritual and ethical resources for professional people.

It is responsible, together with the Bishops' Conference of England & Wales, for the academic and spiritual support of interns on the Catholic Parliamentary Internships scheme - launched in 2003 by the Conference - in which three Catholic graduates will work with three MPs.

Already planned for 2005 is a major conference on the 40th Anniversary of Gaudium et Spes: 'Reasons for our Living and Hoping' (4th-7th July 2005).  This is in conjunction with the Bishops' Conference of England & Wales and Worth Abbey.

The Institute has initiated a research project on 'The Human Person' and is planning a series of inaugural lectures ranging from international issues to economic and domestic issues.  It also hopes to that some lectures will address questions in public and private morality.

It is planning seminars and conferences on 'Leadership in the Church' and 'The Common Good', and is also working, together with other Jesuit Institutes in Europe, on developing projects.
