Sr Winifred Lusk OSU

Tim Curtis SJ

In February 2003 the parish appointed Sr Winifred Lusk, the former Ursuline provincial to be our first Social Outreach Co-ordinator.   She threw herself into the job with great enthusiasm and soon found her office besieged with asylum seekers and over-stayers, with the homeless and people seeking accommodation, with the jobless and people who had fallen through the social security net.   She soon built up a network of contacts to help her reply to the needs of each client, but her lasting strength was the non-judgemental ear which she gave to each of her callers.

Sr Winnie has just moved on, but her office continues to function and the parish is able to reach out to many people that the rest of society has little time for, responding to the Gospel call to serve those most in need and learn from them.

As for youth ministry - well there is always something more to be done!
