The Canonisation of Alberto Hurtado SJ

The British Jesuits and the Society of Jesus worldwide celebrated the canonisation of Fr Alberto Hurtado SJ on 23 October.  Fr Hurtado, a Chilean Jesuit, was among five new saints in the first canonisation ceremony of Pope Benedict XVI's pontificate.

Specially-produced prayer cards were distributed in all Jesuit parishes and other Jesuit centres in Britain.  They recall Father Hurtado's concern for the poor, his deep spirituality and his sense of joy.

At St Ignatius Church in Stamford Hill, north London, a concelebrated Mass in Spanish was held on the day of the canonisation, to celebrate St Alberto Hurtado SJ.
