Death of Robert Drinan SJ

Father Robert Drinan SJ, who played a unique and historic role in American public life, has died at the age of 86.

In addition to being a lawyer and law school teacher, he spoke out strongly against war and was a vocal advocate of human rights.  Additionally, as a congressman he recommended the impeachment of President Richard M.  Nixon.  Last year, Fr Drinan was one of four former members of the House of Representatives to be honored with the Congressional Distinguished Service Award.  In 2004, the American Bar Association called him amazing and 'the stuff of which legends are made' in awarding him the ABA Medal.
