A Jesuit ministry for young adults in London

Theology-on-Tap: Social Justice Season starts 18 April

The Spring season of Theology-on-Tap boasts an impressive array of speakers on a broad range of topics, and will be based on Social Justice issues as part of the LiveSimply campaign.  It will also be taking place in a new venue in Belgravia, Central London.

Theology-on-Tap originated in the United States and is a monthly initiative of the Young Adults Ministry based at the Mount Street Jesuit Centre.  It will be taking place from 18 April in the Grouse and Claret pub, Little Chester Street, where young adults will be able to listen to eminent speakers in a social setting and engage in theological dialogue with them afterwards.

The 2007 season kicks off on Wednesday, 18 April with Uta Sievers from the Jesuit Curia in Rome looking at the Social Ministries of the Society of Jesus, which she describes as 'one way of living out Church teaching'.  The following week, 'Joined-up Living: how to live Eucharistically' will be the title of the talk by Gemma Simmonds CJ from Heythrop College.

Nick King SJ of Campion Hall, Oxford, will be the 3 May speaker, asking whether Jesus' demand that we act justly should be a reason for us to be afraid.  This will be followed on Wednesday 9 May by American Patrick Hornbeck , a doctoral student in theology at Christchurch, Oxford, considering theological perspectives on social justice.

Later in May, Louise Zanré, Director of the Jesuit Refugee Service-UK (17 May), and Christine Allen, Chair of Progressio (23 May), will be bringing their own perspectives to Social Justice issues.  The final two speakers are Dominic Robinson SJ (31 May), who is studying Theology at the Gregorian University in Rome, and Professor Conor Gearty from the London School of Economics who will be talking on human rights on 19 June.
