World Youth Day pilgrims invited to 'pray-as-they-go' to Sydney
Pray-as-you-go - the mobile prayer sessions from Jesuit Media Initiatives (JMI) in London - has produced a special set of reflections for pilgrims travelling to (and from) World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney.
Thousands of young people will be travelling to Australia this month to join Pope Benedict for the largest youth event in the world, which runs from Tuesday 15 to Sunday 20 July. Many of them will be travelling great distances on long-haul flights across the world, so Pray-as-you-go is offering a series of five guided meditations for use on the journey.
Produced in collaboration with the Youth Ministry Team of the Diocese of Westminster, there are three sessions for the journey out, and two for the journey home.
'The sessions follow the usual Pray-as-you-go format of music, scripture reading and questions for reflection,' says Fr Peter Scally SJ, the Director of JMI. 'They're aimed at helping young people on their way to Sydney prepare spiritually for the experience of World Youth Day, becoming aware of their reasons for making this journey, their hopes and expectations, and God's presence and guidance in their lives. When it's all over and the young people are on their way back home, the last two sessions will help them to reflect prayerfully on the experience, where they found God in it, and how they will return to normal life afterwards.'
As usual, the five prayer sessions are available in MP3 format, separately or in a single ZIP file. They can be downloaded from www.pray-as-you-go.org/wyd.htm
Pray-as-you-go was launched in March 2006 by the British Jesuits to offer commuters daily prayer sessions in MP3 format, as free downloads from the internet. Since then, more than five million prayer sessions have been downloaded from the site.
