Best GCSE results EVER for Jesuit Comprehensive pupils

Saint Ignatius College, the Jesuit all-boys comprehensive school in North London, has achieved its best GCSE results ever. 74% of students were awarded an A, B or C grade in five subjects or more; while the percentage of boys who achieved an A to C grade in Maths and English rose by 10% to 63%.

Headteacher, Mr JP Morrison, described the results as 'a fantastic testament to the hard work of the staff, the diligence of the boys themselves and the tremendous support we receive from their parents'.

The improved GCSE results have been achieved through a combined strategy of more detailed tracking of a pupil's academic achievements (including targeted intervention if it is felt he is slipping behind) and additional classes after school and on Saturday mornings.  The school also introduced a mock exam results day - which Mr Morrison said was 'a wake-up call' to some pupils - and assembly talks by boys who had taken their GCSEs last year and had either succeeded, cruised through or failed.

'Many of our boys come from areas of London where it is not the norm to have high expectations,' said Mr Morrison. 'But here at St Ignatius we strive to provide them with a school with high aspirations, so that they can take their achievements to new heights.  Working within the Jesuit ethos of helping to develop the whole person, we are committed to the education of boys at all levels - their personal and spiritual development, their maturity and their generosity.  These exam results are a clear indication that our academic achievements are on course too.'

Last week, St Ignatius College reported their best A-level results in nine years, with the pass rate is up to 98.7% for grades A-E.  The pass rate for As and Bs was up 8.1%.
