Chairman John Cowdall

Thanksgiving Mass at Stonyhurst College

Stonyhurst's new Chairman of Governors, Mr John Cowdall, attended a recent Thanksgiving Mass at the College, celebrating the school's 400-year association with the Jesuits.  Stonyhurst's Jesuit mission continues, within the formation of a new self-governing Trust.

'I am proud and humbled to be the new Chairman at this moment in Stonyhurst's long and illustrious history' said Mr Cowdall, who was educated by the Jesuits himself, at Preston College.  He then entered local government where he spent 34 years, being Chief Executive in three local authorities.

Mr Cowdall has been extensively involved in the Catholic Church , as a trustee of the Archdiocese of Liverpool, Chairman of Governors at Cardinal Newman College, Preston and as a member of the Patrimony Committee of the Bishop's Conference for England and Wales, which advises the Bishop on the care and maintenance of historic churches.
