Professor Groome to speak in Glasgow
In addition to the four Gonzaga Lectures announced earlier this month (see link below) and as part of its 150th anniversary celebrations, St Aloysius' College in Glasgow has organised a further lecture for April. Professor Thomas Groome will ask 'What Keeps Us Catholic?' on Tuesday, 20 April at St Aloysius' Church, starting at 7.30pm.
Professor Groome is Director of the Institute of Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry and is Professor of Theology and Religious Education at Boston College. He is the author of Christian Religious Education (widely regarded as the most influential contemporary work on the subject), Educating for Life and What Makes Us Catholic?
The British Jesuit Province's Assistant for Education, Michael Edwards, says Professor Groome is 'refreshingly accessible in both what he writes and what he says. He is a key international figure in articulating the importance of Catholic education in faith formation. He is practical and bases what he says on lived experience together with tradition; he encourages us to reflect on our common experience; and he challenges us to action.'
The lecture is being presented in conjunction with the Archdiocese of Glasgow and the Scottish Catholic Education Service. Admission is free. More details are available from St Aloysius' College (link below).
