Nine Jesuit Schools combine to perform Fauré's Requiem
Some 300 young singers will be assembling at Saint Ignatius Church in Stamford Hill, North London, on Friday, 12 March, to form a massed choir. They will be accompanied by an orchestra of pupils and teachers from the nine Jesuit schools in England and Scotland in a performance of Fauré's Requiem.
The performers will be coming from as far north as St Aloysius' College in Glasgow to the southernmost school: Wimbledon College in South West London. In between, students and staff from the Jesuits' other three senior schools - Mount St Mary's College in Derbyshire, Stonyhurst College in Lancashire and St Ignatius College in Enfield - will be making the journey to London for the performance. They will be joined by pupils and staff from the four preparatory schools of St John's Beaumont (Old Windsor), Donhead Lodge (Wimbledon), Barlborough Hall (Chesterfield) and St Mary's Hall (Stonyhurst).
Each of the choirs will be singing their own individual pieces of choral music during the evening, before all the performers assemble for Fauré's renowned composition: his Requiem in D Minor, written between 1887 and 1890. The work consists of seven movements: the Introit/Kyrie, the Offertory, the Sanctus, Pie Jesu, Agnus Dei/Lux Aeterna, Libera me and In Paradisum.
By way of preparation for this event, the musicians will be assembling at Mount St Mary's College this weekend (26 - 28 February) for a residential orchestral workshop.
Tickets for the performance at St Ignatius Church on 12 March (starting at 7pm) are £10 each (concessions £5); they are available on the door.
