Dr Michael Fuller

Science and Religion in Edinburgh

Following their very successful programme on 'Evolution and Faith' last year, the Lauriston Jesuit Centre in Edinburgh is now preparing for a new series of talks under the heading, 'The Dialogue of Science and Religion'.  The talks by Dr Michael Fuller are being presented in partnership with the Scottish Episcopal Church 'Adventures in Faith' programme on four consecutive Tuesdays beginning on 11 May, in the newly refurbished hall of the Lauriston Centre.

The Director of the Lauriston Centre, Father Chris Boles SJ, says they are delighted that Dr Fuller will be their guest speaker. 'He will be presenting issues that arise in the world of science that have a bearing on faith and theology, and vice versa,' says Fr Boles. 'He will look at the many ways the worlds of faith and science are already in dialogue, and what opportunities there are for this dialogue to develop and continue in the future.'

Dr Michael Fuller teaches theology at New College in Edinburgh, where he is an Honorary Fellow, and is Ministry Development Officer at The Theological Institute of the Scottish Episcopal Church (TISEC).  His first advanced studies were in the field of chemistry, gaining a doctorate in organic chemistry from Oxford, before moving to Cambridge to study theology and being ordained in the Anglican Church.  He worked in parishes in England and Scotland before taking up his present post at TISEC.  Among his many writings is the book 'Atoms and Icons' (Mowbray 1995), and he has contributed numerous articles for magazines and journals on the dialogue of science and theology.
