Pupils and staff run in memory of tragic asthma victim
Dozens of runners from Stonyhurst St Mary's Hall are supporting Asthma UK in memory of one of the prep school's pupils who died from the condition last year.
Forty-four young runners aged between three and seven ran a mini-marathon this week, completing the mile-long course around the school grounds, cheered on by parents and fellow pupils. The children chose to support the asthma charity in memory of 12-year-old William Magowan, a former Stonyhurst St Mary's Hall pupil, who died of an asthma attack in October.
And this weekend, Stonyhurst St Mary's Hall staff have entered two teams to run the Edinburgh Marathon, raising funds for the same cause. The eight runners will be wearing bright yellow shirts, William's favourite colour. 'We've put in hours of training but it's been worth it,' said Mr Garth Turvey, who teaches games at the prep school. 'We wanted to do something to celebrate the life of a very special boy.'
