Jesuits take outreach into central London festival
Jesuits will be joining Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ) at a Catholic Faith Celebration in the heart of London next month. Spirit in the City takes place from Thursday 3 June to Saturday 5 June, and on the last day, there will be a major gathering at Leicester Square from 12.30pm to about 8pm, at which there will be a stand promoting Ignatian spirituality and vocations.
According to their web site (www.spiritinthecity.org), Spirit in the City is an annual festival of faith in and around Soho and the West End. Through a series of events in their churches and on the streets, the parishes aim to reach out and take their place in central London in a unique way.
'It is a faith celebration during which we share our faith by our presence as a community, and bring faith directly into the busyness of the entertainment district,' say the organisers. 'In this way we are invited to encounter God and reconnect with him as part of our journey of conversion.'
Jesuit Scholastic Ujah Ejembi SJ of the Brixton Hill community will be at the FCJ stand in Leicester Square from 12.30 to 8pm. He says: 'The hope is that I will be available to speak to young adults - particularly men - about Ignatian spirituality and a religious vocation.'
If you are around central London on Saturday 5 June, be sure to check out the stand. You can get more details by logging onto www.spiritinthecity.org (link below).
