Living Theology in Liverpool - July
Loyola Metro in Liverpool has announced its Living Theology programme for 2010. The annual summer school on Christian faith will be centred on St Francis Xavier's Church (SFX) and the Hope University Everton Campus between 26 and 30 July.
The main speaker will be Julian Filochowski, Chair of the Archbishop Romero Trust and former Director of CAFOD, who will speak on the 'Preferential Option for the Poor'. Delegates then choose from two sets of options, covering topics as diverse as prayer and the mission of Christ, the Beatitudes and Science. These will be largely addressed by Jesuits of the British Province.
'In this 30th anniversary year of the assassination of Archbishop Oscar Romero of San Salvador, the Living Theology week will look at the option for the poor and the martyrdom that came in its wake and try to understand how and why Romero's memory continues to inspire so many today,' says one of the organisers at SFX, Debbie Reynolds. 'We will also reflect on the importance of prayer in our lives, the relationship between the Church and the State, and issues such as evolution, the environment and creation - as well as several topics which are scripture-based.'
