Fr Tommy Greenan

Cardinal to attend tonight's Romero Lecture

Jesuit centres in Edinburgh and Glasgow will play host to the annual Romero Lecture this week.  Father Tommy Greenan, a Scottish priest and theologian currently working in Central America, will speak at the Lauriston Centre in Edinburgh tonight at 7.30pm and tomorrow at St Aloysius Church in Glasgow.

A priest of the Edinburgh diocese, Fr Tommy lives and works in the remote Petén area of Guatemala.  He spent many years as a missionary priest in El Salvador before moving to neighbouring Guatemala.  He has researched and written a major study which compares and contrasts the lives of Saint John Chrysostom in the 4th Century and Archbishop Romero in our own times.  The 2010 lecture series is sub-titled 'Remembering Romero'.

At the Lauriston Jesuit Centre, next to Sacred Heart Church in Edinburgh, the audience will include Cardinal Keith O'Brien.  The Glasgow lecture tomorrow will start at 7.30pm at the Ogilvie Centre in Rose Street, next to St Aloysius Church.  Additionally, Fr Tommy will speak at Liverpool Hope University (Friday), at St Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square, London (Sunday) and the Cathedral Hall in Leeds (Friday 2 July).
