Events at St Francis Xavier's, Liverpool
The Church of St Francis Xavier in Liverpool has announced its autumn programme.
There will be three Heritage Open Days, on September 10, 11 and 12, when the church will be open for visitors between 10am and 4pm. There will be a tour or talk at 2pm each day.
On the Sunday (12 September) Cheniston Roland will give an illustrated musical talk on Sir Charles Santley - who was Queen Victoria's favourite tenor and one of the first people to have his voice recorded. He started his career in SFX Choir in the 1860s. The event starts at 3pm.
On Saturday, 2 October at 10.45am, LOYOLA-metro presents a talk by David Alton at the Athenaeum Club: 'The Pope's Visit, What happens next?' Tickets £5 including refreshments - from SFX Church 0151-298 1911or Pauline Books, Bold Street, Liverpool.
Friday 3 December is the feast of St Francis Xavier, and at 7pm the Liverpool parish will be launching its 'Friends of SFX' with talks, music and refreshments. All will be welcome.
Finally, looking ahead to Advent, LOYOLA-metro will once again be offering Silence in the City: three gentle, quiet prayer sessions in the busy city centre to prepare for Christmas. All will be welcome at Pauline Books, Bold St, Liverpool on Thursday evenings: 2, 9 and 16 December starting with refreshments at 5pm. There is no charge and the organisers promise you will be back shopping by 6pm!
