Jesuits respond to disaster in Pakistan

The one Jesuit in Pakistan who is working directly with flood victims has sent the following report to Jesuit Missions:

People are suffering terribly due to rains and floods.  Millions have lost their belongings and loved ones.  The situation is very pathetic and painful.  People are just living on roads even without any shelter and food.  In many places, the government has totally failed to look after these victims of floods.

I have visited some camps in Southern Punjab.  My heart weeps when I see the little children who have lost their loved ones and had nothing to eat for many days.  We are trying our best to help these people.  We are trying our best in our limited ways to reach those areas where no one has reached yet.

At the moment we are working with Jesus and Mary Sisters (Southern Punjab).  Last Monday I went to Multan with some of them in a loaded truck with daily needs of life and clothes.  Our focus is to help the kids - as many as we can.  The kids are suffering so badly and you can't stop your tears when a child says my sibling and parents have died in this water. 'Why this water killed my people?' You cannot dry their tears.  What a painful experiences for these unlucky ones.  In the recent camps we visited, people still need about 100 tents to live in.  They have no utensils to cook their food.  Many kids are falling sick badly.  The place is very hot and humid.

JM is able to transfer money directly into the Jesuit account in Pakistan to help Fr Imram Ghouri SJ with this work.  Follow the link below to make a donation.
