Rabbi David Rosen CBE

Lauriston Jesuit Centre announces autumn programme

Social Justice Issues within the Christian - Jewish Dialogue will be the focus of an evening talk at the Lauriston Jesuit Centre in Edinburgh next month.  The speakers will be Fr John Pawlikowski, a Servite priest from Chicago, and Rabbi David Rosen who lives and works in Jerusalem.

Both John and David are former presidents of the International Council of Christians and Jews and are in Scotland for a few days at events in Glasgow and Aberdeen.
Fr Chris Boles SJ, the Director of the Centre says he's delighted they are both willing to make a 'side trip' to Edinburgh, to speak at the Centre, on the important theme of social justice. "I hope it will be a wide ranging discussion on common issues of social concern," he says.

The evening - which starts at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 6 October - will be moderated by Rev Marion Chatterley, chaplain to Waverley Care.

The Lauriston Jesuit Centre's major lecture series this autumn is entitled 'The History Series', marking the 450th anniversary of the Scottish Reformation, and the 150th anniversary of the Jesuits opening Sacred Heart Church at Lauriston.  There will be an eclectic mix of speakers, including Owen Dudley Edwards, Tom Devine, Bernard Aspinwall and Stewart Brown, among others.  The series is on Wednesday evenings from October 27 to December 1.

In November the Centre is holding a one day conference on Domestic Abuse and violence in the home. "This is an issue which sadly affects many in our parish congregations, so the day is an awareness raising opportunity," says Father Boles. "This will be accompanied by our hosting the exhibition of '104 Pairs of Shoes'."

Later in the autumn, Paul Lakeland, from Fairfield, Connecticut, who is in Durham for a Semester, will speak with the title 'Calling All the Baptised'.

Details of all these events and others can be found on the Lauriston Jesuit Centre web site (link below).
