Lauriston Centre marks Scottish Reformation anniversary

In the autumn 'History Series' at the Lauriston Jesuit Centre in Edinburgh, the focus will be on the 450th anniversary of the Reformation in Scotland, and also the 150th anniversary of opening Sacred Heart Jesuit church in the city.

There will be impressive range of speakers: Professor Stewart J Brown, Professor Tom Devine, Owen Dudley Edwards, Dr Bernard Aspinwall, Dr Anna Groundwater and Dr Julian Goodare.  The range of topics they will be addressing will be equally as impressive, from the Scottish enlightenment to witchcraft, and various points in between!

Talks will take place every Wednesday from 27 October to 1 December, from 7.30 p.m.  Admission is simply by donation, all are welcome, and refreshments are provided afterwards.

The opening talk, by Owen Dudley Edwards, is entitled 'Edinburgh when the Jesuits returned - the city and the world'.

'I'm sure this talk will be of much wider interest than to just a Jesuit audience!' says Fr Chris Boles SJ, the Director of the Lauriston Jesuit Centre. 'I am delighted that the Centre can mark the Scottish Reformation in this way, an example in itself of how far we in Scotland has developed ecumenically over recent years.  A wide ranging audience for the history series would be a marvellous testimonial to this ecumenical reality, and I look forward to seeing many friends at some or all of these talks!'
