Reflection for those involved with the homeless
A day of reflection for all people involved in action on homelessness will be held at the Mount Street Jesuit Centre in Central London on Saturday 29 January. Entitled In the desert, in the city, the speakers will include Alastair Murray of Housing Justice and Catherine Duce, the fieldworker of the ARCS project at Heythrop College. This project helps people and organisations to reflect theologically on their work.
This special event will take as its starting point 'contemplation grounded in reality' and together participants will explore what it means to be committed to social justice and Gospel values in our daily living and volunteering. It is a preparation for Homelessness Sunday (30 January 2011), and will be suitable for anyone who already works in a paid or voluntary capacity with homeless people, and also for all those who would like to do so. The day will give participants the opportunity to share and reflect upon their experience, in a prayerful setting.
Also speaking at this day of reflection with be Martin Newell, a Passionist Priest living with homeless refugees in a London Catholic Worker house which he helped to establish. And Paul O'Reilly SJ, a Jesuit priest who also works as a General Practitioner at the Doctor Hickey Surgery in Westminster, and is Director of the Mount Street Jesuit Centre.
