St Ignatius College students at the German Embassy

German career fair at the Embassy

To celebrate the award of International School Status to St Ignatius College, Enfield, a group of sixth formers were invited to visit the German Embassy recently and attend a German career fair.

After a welcome address given by the Ambassador, Georg Boomgaarden, the pupils and their Chaplain, Fr Tim Byron SJ, strategically moved around the packed hall to talk to representatives from German and Austrian companies. 'We received a lot of information about working for companies both here and in Germany,' said Fr Byron. 'And we were very impressed by the vast amount of German companies inside Britain such as BMW, Bosch, Commerzbank, Lufthansa, Mercedes Benz, Munich Re and Siemens.  We were surprised that so many companies that we had heard of were German - including Haribo sweets!'

Fr Byron says St Ignatius College is also looking forward to hosting pupils from Sweden, Majorca and Germany, who will be visiting the school as part of the Comenius Programme from 2 to 6 March. 'Unusually they are not from Jesuit schools so we are hoping that some of the Ignatian spirit rubs off on them!' he says.
