Jim died peacefully at around 5.00am on Wednesday 4th April 2018 in the Cardiac Care Unit of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. He had been in hospital for some time, being treated for endocarditis, and his condition had taken a turn for the worse. He was a member of the Province between 1948 and 1957, and subsequently taught Latin at Campion School, Hornchurch, until his retirement. He is survived by his widow Noreen. Your prayers are asked for the repose of the soul of Fr Kennedy O’Brien SJ, of the Irish Province, who died suddenly yesterday in his room. Kennedy, who was aged 61, was known to many in the British Province from the time he spent in the Jesuit novitiate in Birmingham while he was a scholastic in the 1980s. We have had news from the Irish Province of the death of Mario D'Souza. Mario was a scholastic there in the early 1980's, and well-known to a number of members of this Province. Some time after he left the Society, he joined the Basilian Fathers, but kept in touch with Tom Layden, the former Irish Provincial.
