I liked serving mass and wanted to escape the army and quarrels over girls ! I thought it would be good to be a Jesuit teacher and be able to play cricket and tennis till I was 50. I had a Jesuit uncle on the missions in Zimbabwe so I guess missions was in the background and in the end I spent a lot of time walking round the Rupununi and Pakaraimas - I hate walking - encouraging basic tribal communities which I enjoyed.
Evelyn the Jamaican cook at Stamford Hill says all Jesuits are comedians - I guess a sense of
humour is very important.
Became a Jesuit in 1952. Paddy spent many years in Guyana before returning to the UK in 2000. He then worked with the poorest people in Liverpool for 10 years before moving to Stamford Hill to work in the parish.
