On Tuesday 30 May, the BBC will air the first episode of its new drama Broken. Much of the series was filmed in the Jesuit Church of St Francis Xavier in Liverpool. In honour of the show’s debut airing, we explore the SFX archives.
Well, a long time ago, when I was young and foolish, I decided that I wanted to be a Jesuit. And so with a number of other similarly foolish young men, I went on a retreat for seven days to pray and reflect about whether or not the Lord was actually calling me to be a Jesuit.

During the Second World War the emphasis of the magazine change from being a magazine for the Catholic Home to a magazine for the Forces.
