Support Us

The Jesuits in Britain rely on support from friends like you in order to carry out our work in the service of faith and promotion of social justice.

We thank all our generous supporters and remember them regularly in our prayers.

Support is particularly needed for:

Youth ministry & vocations promotion

Magis is a young adult ministry

We run large chaplaincies at Oxford and Manchester Universities serving nearly 15,000 Catholic students. It is a big priority for us to nurture the faith life of young people at this exciting but challenging life stage.

Service to the poor at home and overseas

Service to the poor at home

At home – With the support of over 100 volunteers, the Jesuit Refugee Service UK accompanies, serves and advocates for the rights of asylum seekers who have been made destitute as a consequence of government policies and provides pastoral support to those held in immigration detention at Heathrow.

The Makumbi mission is an overseas work of Jesuit Missions

Overseas – Jesuit Missions supports schools and teachers in Guyana, South Africa and Zimbabwe, and is working with Jesuit colleagues in the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan.

Spiritual formation of teachers in our schools

A course run by the Jesuit Institute for the heads of Religious Education in our schools

The Jesuit Institute works with hundreds of teachers and leadership teams in Jesuit schools around the country each year, to strengthen the faith life of the school and embed Ignatian principles for spiritual formation of our young people. This is particularly important now all our teachers are lay people (i.e. not priests) whose own Catholic training may have been minimal.

Spirituality programme

We run talks, courses and retreats at our centres around the country every day, helping people in all walks of life to grow in their faith.  We have a busy publishing programme through The Way journal and books.  We want to develop a more flexible outreach programme to help parishes and university chaplaincies to inspire young people, the future of the church.

Online ministry

Commuters using Pray as you go

Thinking Faith is our online journal which reached 280,000 in the last year.  Pray-as-you–go is our daily prayer podcast which reached over 315,000 people worldwide last year.

Care of elderly and infirm Jesuits

Jesuit care community in Boscombe

Caring for our elder priests and brothers is an increasing cost. Around 20 of our senior men, averaging 84 years of age, live in our retirement community at Corpus Christi Jesuit centre in Boscombe on the south coast. They devote themselves to prayer and spiritual growth.  Skilled nursing care is provided to those who need it.
