Kairos retreat: "light and community"
Just before breaking for Christmas St Aloysius College in Glasgow held its Kairos retreats. The retreats are for the 16 and 17 year old students and took place over four days. Four different places hosted the retreats: St Mary's Redemptorist Monastery in Kinnoull, Perth; Gartmore House near Stirling; Stonyhurst College; and Minsteracres Retreat Centre in Consett, Northumberland.
Over the four days, the students are lead by group leaders, 17 and 18 year old St Aloysius students who took part in Kairos the previous year. Those group leaders give a series of talks on themes of creativity, knowing yourself, leadership, God's friendship, spirituality, and love in action. After the talks the students go into groups and discuss the presentation and the experiences they had. As well as the talks, a group meditation, service of light and the sacrament reconciliation are given.
The headmaster of St Aloysius College, Matthew Bartlett, attended the Kairos retreat at Stonyhurst College and said of his experience, "I find it very emotional to share with some incredibly impressive young men and women their faith and ours. It is one of the most powerful parts of our spiritual life at the College and I thank God that I took time out to join with them and some equally wonderful colleagues. Last night as we celebrated the festival of light in a freezing but beautiful church here, there was a real sense of closeness to God and sense of community: a privilege to be part of it all."
