Francis and the role of women in the Church – watch this free talk

Women in the Church

In the last of this Lent series of talks organised by the Edinburgh Jesuit Centre, Dr Gemma Simmonds CJ discusses the role of women in the Church.

Gemma is a Sister of the Congregation of Jesus and Director of the Religious Life Institute in Cambridge, and former President of the Catholic Theological Association of Great Britain.

In her opening remarks, Gemma said: “I want to begin by nailing my colours to the mast as someone who is an absolute all-out fan of Pope Francis and a huge fan of what he says, and yet somebody who has real questions about what he has said about women in the Church, which I think carries both encouragement and problems in equal measure.”
