Incarnations: poetry for Advent and Christmas
A new booklet of poetry by Brian McClorry SJ is now available - Incarnations: Poetry for Advent and Christmas.
"Most of these pieces, fifteen in all, were put together for my Christmas cards, although not all the poems written made it onto the cards, or indeed into the booklet", explains Brian, who is a team member at St Beuno's Jesuit Spirituality Centre. "Evidently ‘incarnation’ is a risky and uncertain business for all of us. The poems were written in a variety of places – Glasgow, Cape Town and Toronto as well as St Beuno’s – and emerged from different moods with varying hopes and questions. It seems that ‘incarnation’ varies with time, place, people and circumstances. Nonetheless the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. This no doubt is what we often and rightly call ‘mystery’. However, mystery is not only what we can’t see through; it is also what makes good vision possible. Poetry can ‘hold’ mystery in images and word patterns which may help prayer; mystery itself can provoke poetry. How my poems might relate to this thought is of course another matter entirely."
The cover painting of a Raven, which came from a careful and scenic reading of the poems, was done by Iona Reid-Dalglish, who is also on the team at St Beuno’s Jesuit Spirituality Centre.
A limited number of copies are available at £4.56 each, including second class postage, from St Beuno’s Jesuit Spirituality Centre, St Asaph, Denbighshire LL170AS
