Jesuit church helps school win ecumenical award
Faith Primary School has received the 'Church and School Partnership Award' from the Diocese of Liverpool. The award was given in recognition of the ecumenical approach to education taken by the school, which is served by two churches - St Francis Xavier (Roman Catholic) and St Peter's (CoE).
Debbie Reynolds, Pastoral Assistant at St Francis Xavier, received the award on behalf of the two churches and Faith Primary School. The award was presented by Archdeacon of Liverpool, Mike McGurk. Debbie said: “We are very grateful that our collaboration has been recognised. This award will certainly encourage us to continue to build on what is already in place, continuing to find ways to celebrate and live out the school mission statement: ‘Loving and learning in the light of the Lord’”.
The Sunday after, St Francis Xavier welcomed Father Provincial Damian Howard SJ to Mass as part of his annual visitation. This coincided with the European Cup coming to the church, which was arranged as a surprise for the congregation by Faith Primary School's Attendance Officer, Carrina Taxiltaridis, and Eddie Sullivan from the LFC Foundation.
There was a long line of people waiting to have their photo taken and even a few Everton fans were happy to get close to the trophy! The congregation at St Francis Xavier is thankful to Fr Damian for his visit and for his affirmation and inspirational encouragement.
