The Lady Statue returns to Stonyhurst
The Lady Statue has become an iconic site for all those who visit Stonyhurst, standing tall at the top of the Avenue since 1882. The Statue, a replica of the one in Rome (set up by Pope Pius IX) was a gift from Mr Thomas Eyre, brother of the then Stonyhurst Rector, Fr William Eyre.
Last year, after 136 years, the Statue was removed from her plinth and sent away for conservation. Thanks to the kind donations made to the Genesis Project and the wonderful craftsmanship of Rupert Harris, the Lady Statue has returned to her home at the top of The Avenue and will once more be a beacon to all who visit the College.
On Saturday 25th May there will be a formal ceremony for the Blessing of the Lady Statue. Fr Tim Curtis SJ and Fr Brendan Callaghan OS SJ will lead the procession and ceremony. All who wish to attend are warmly invited to do so. IIn addition to the Blessing on 25th May there will be an additional ‘Whole School Event’ to mark the return of statue next term.Saturday, May 25, 2019 - 15:00
