Black theologies emerged from African-American churches in the 1960s as church leaders explored the promise of liberation in the Hebrew scriptures and the New Testament, and connected it with God’s presence in the experience and suffering of black people and their struggle for justice.
This five week reading group introduces this vibrant and radical tradition through exploring a range of black theologies from writers working in US and UK contexts, from the 1960s through to the present.
Each week, there will be questions to guide your reading and reflection, concluding with an online seminar to share our responses to the reading, and explore its themes and significance.
