Old Mountaineers reunion weekend 2018

The last weekend of the October half term has long become the traditional reunion weekend for Old Mountaineers of Mount St Mary’s College and Barlborough Hall School. In keeping with that tradition, the 20th & 21st October saw many OM’s return to the Mount to tour both schools and enjoy a weekend of memories, good cheer and fine food.

For many, this is a regular trip, but for some it was their first time back at the school, bringing family and loved ones with them to share their memories of school times.

Under the charge of Warrant Officer Class 2 Fred Deas, OM’s were able to take part in the .22 Rifle Range Competition at the CCF Rifle Range. This was a chance for OM’s to dust of their shooting skills, with some pin point accuracy. Despite plenty of CCF experience in the room, the winner, by a very close margin was the daughter of OM John McLaughlin – Jane Robertson – Her first time in a rifle range and a great way to celebrate her father’s birthday!OM John McLaughlin

The evening dinner commenced with the honoured tradition of prayers at the shrine in English and Latin led by Fr Michael Beattie SJ (OM46) and all enjoyed a wonderful meal served by the Mount catering team. The port was passed and toasts were made to Her Majesty the Queen, Guests and The Mount Association.

After a minor flying accident earlier in the day, the Head Boy Rhys Williams arrived for dinner. Rhys impressed his audience with an outstanding speech and then went on to woo his audience with his magnificent piano skills late into the night. “Is there anything the Head Boy cannot do?” was the buzz around Middelton Hall!

On Sunday morning all gathered in the Memorial Chapel for mass with Fr Michael Beattie and the weekend then came to a close.

The Headmaster Dr Nicholas Cuddihy said "I would like to thank all Old Mountaineers who visited over the course of the weekend: thank you for your continued support to your old school."

All enjoyed a delightful weekend and look forward to the next OM event on 1st March 2019, where the Headmaster will be hosting an evening dinner at The Lansdowne Club, London.
