Students' tall ship adventure

Three senior students of St Aloysius College in Glasgow have taken part in a unique experience by helping to sail a traditional Tall Ship across the English Channel.

Nicholas Daly, Fiona McIntosh and Helen Devine of S6 helped to negotiate the route to Harlingen in The Netherlands using the ship’s masts to catch the wind. Their six-day course with the crew of Tenacious was undertaken with the Jubilee Sailing Trust.

Nicholas described the adventure as fantastic. “I loved and will cherish each individual moment on the voyage,” he said. “I gained new life experience and have explored a different side of adventure which I had never imagined doing.”

The Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) has been a registered charity since 1978. Its mission is to promote the integration of people of all physical abilities through the challenge and adventure of tall ship sailing aboard two Tall Ships, Lord Nelson and Tenacious. It not only teaches them how to crew a tall ship; it also aims to promote equality and sharing, while celebrating individual differences by encouraging crews to work together to achieve greater things.
