Thomas Becket: an inspiration for the Churches today?
The Society for Ecumenical Studies presents an online seminar marking the 850th anniversary of the murder of St Thomas Becket (details below).
The keynote speaker is Henry Mayr-Harting, the first Roman Catholic and the first layperson to be appointed Regius Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Oxford (a post he held from 1997 – 2003).
Archbishop Angaelos, Coptic Orthodox Archbishop of London, will speak about martyrdom today, and Revd Dr Keith Clements, former General Secretary of the Conference of European Churches, will reflect on Church-State relations.
Short biographies of the those contributing to the seminar can be viewed here.
The seminar will be chaired by Father Dominic Robinson SJ, parish priest at Farm Street Church.
