Wombles attend Strictly
Two Wombles made history for Jesuit Missions on the 22nd May, as they attended Mount St Mary’s (MSM) Strictly 175 fundraising event. The Jesuit school in Derbyshire was celebrating their 175th anniversary of the school as well as raising money for Jesuit Missions.
Amongst the 8 couples, who had all been training and practising hard with the help of professional choreographers, there was a surprise performance by two Wombles who showed off their twist moves.
One of the Wombles surprised everyone by being headteacher of Barlborough Hall, Karen Keeton, who was also part of the MSM marathon team who ran the London Marathon this year for Jesuit Missions.
The rest of the MSM marathon team all attended the event among the 320 guests and started the evening by coming onto stage to proudly show off their medals.
David Hurst, Jesuit Missions Lifetime Womble Ambassador and Jesuit Missions representative on the night, says, “It was a hugely successful evening, exactly the same as the real Strictly come dancing with four judges including Fr Micheal Beattie (Mount St Mary’s Jesuit priest) and everything from Foxtrot to Rumba!”
Each couple performed two dances and were then marked out of ten by the judges. There were also two dance performances from children at MSM prep school Barlborough Hall.
The event was part of a week-long timetable of events at MSM; including a school sports day, fashion show, children’s theatre and academy concert.
You can now sign up to run the 2019 London Marathon for Jesuit Missions.
