Archives of the Jesuits in Britain

The Archives
114 Mount Street
United Kingdom

Following public health advice, the Jesuits in Britain Archives will remain closed until further notice.

The purpose of the Jesuit in Britain Archives is to collect, preserve and make available records concerning the Jesuits in Britain.
The Archive (Archivum Britannicum Societatis Iesu: ABSI) primarily holds records relating to the Jesuits in Britain. It is not, however, the only archive of the British Province. As well as small scale local collections, there are also significant holdings at Stonyhurst College, Lancashire and at Campion Hall, Oxford.
The collection at Mount Street contains papers relating to the administration of the British Province by the Provincial Curia as well as personal papers and correspondence of deceased members of the Province. It includes records of Jesuit communities, of Province works, and material relating to the overseas missionary work of the Province and the Cause of the Holy Martyrs. The Archive includes a collection of antiquarian books consisting of works by members of the Province and those defined as being important for the post-Reformation history of Catholicism in Britain and/or the history and spirituality of the Society.
The Archive is part of the Network of Archives & Libraries of the Catholic Church and as material is catalogued it will be made available online through the Catholic Heritage website.
