Cannonball moment - the moment that changed my life

May 20, 2021

Jesuits in training share their conversion experiences in a video series inspired by the conversion of St Ignatius of Loyola.

Christopher Brolly SJ

At the time of this interview, Christopher was teaching at St Ignatius College during a period Jesuits call 'Regency' (a practical deployment following a period of academic study). Here he describes his own conversion experience.

"As a young man, I was full of confusion. I was seeking deeper meaning and fulfilment in my life, but the pleasures or the possessions that were offered by the world as a route to happiness, they just weren't fulfilling me, and they were leaving me empty." Paolo Beltrame SJ

At the time of this interview, Paolo was studying for his degree in Theology at The Centre Sèvres in Paris.

"I was always curious, enthusiastic about the foundations of reality of the cosmos. What does the infinitely small consist of? And what is there in the infinitely large? Understanding and knowing how to describe the laws that govern the cosmos is the question that fascinated me." To watch the rest of the interview, click here.

Luís Orlando Peréz Jiménez SJ

At the time of this interview, Luís was living in the main Jesuit residence in London and studying for a PhD in Social and Historical Studies at the Institute of the Americas, University College London.

"And then, it was an explosive moment for me because from there - I - my life changed. I started to feel a lot of, more light, much more - I started to grasp reality with its colours in the sense that it was giving me a lot of joy to be able to help these people." This entire series of interviews (including those from other Jesuit Provinces) is available to view on the Jesuits Global YouTube channel here.
