Part of the growing "Finding God in Eden" series, this walking prayer workshop offers an opportunity to encounter God through nature, guided prayer and mindful reflection. Led by Sarah Young of the Jesuit Institute and Ignatian spiritual director Ginny Newsham, the morning combines walking, silence, conversation and Ignatian spirituality in the peaceful landscapes of Cumbria.
The workshops were first launched in 2025 and have continued to grow following positive feedback from participants. This year's programme includes walks of varying lengths on different dates, helping to make the experience accessible to people of different ages and abilities.
Inspired by the Ignatian tradition of finding God in all things, the workshops invite participants to slow down, listen attentively and become more aware of God's presence in creation. There is time for conversation and companionship, as well as moments of silence and personal reflection.
The July workshop takes place on Friday 17 July 2026, beginning at Christ & St Mary's Church in Armathwaite. Participants will follow a gentle four-mile walk between Armathwaite and Ainstable before finishing with a picnic lunch beside the River Eden.
The workshop is open to anyone who enjoys the outdoors and is curious about exploring prayer in a natural setting. Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and suitable clothing for walking.
