magis is a Latin word meaning “more”, “the most”, “the greatest”, “the best”. St Ignatius of Loyola often used this word, taking it to mean living fully, deeply; serving selflessly. Jesuits in Britain and their partners (including the Faithful Companions of Jesus, and Christian Life Community) strive to live out magis everyday, and collaborate on MAGIS events.
MAG+S 2023 is a worldwide programme for young people between 18 and 35, scheduled for 22 - 31 July this year and culminating in World Youth Day in Lisbon with Pope Francis. 36 people are scheduled to go along this year and will join a diverse group of young people from around the world sharing common moments in each day:
Dates: We will gather in Lisbon on 22 July before being sent on experiences across Portugal and Spain on 24 July. These will finish on 31 July, at which point World Youth Day starts in Lisbon on 1 August finishing on 6 August.
We have obtained 10 extra places for this event, so please get in touch before these go!
Event cost is 485 Euros (not including travel) for both the Magis event and World Youth Day. First instalment of 250 Euros is needed by 25 January 2023. Balance to be paid by 31 April 2023. A limited number of bursaries will be made available. Contact: email@example.com
Participants make their own travel arrangements to Lisbon and are responsible for their own health and travel insurance.
The MAG+S event will be organised by the Jesuits in Portugal working closely with other Ignatian groups, including religious and lay people. The many MAG+S groups from different countries will come together to form the Ignatian pilgrimage group to World Youth Day.
For the UK, this includes the Jesuits in Britain, Christian Life Communities, the Faithful Companions of Jesus and other members of the Ignatian family .
An assortment of opportunities, in person and online, will be offered to gather pilgrims and volunteers going to MAGIS-WYD. The following dates have been set already and others will be added as we move through the spring and into the summer before we depart:
Online: Thursday, 27 April, 7.30pm - 8.30pm
