Brother Geoff te Braake SJ to profess Final Vows as a Jesuit

July 16, 2026

The Jesuits in Britain are delighted to announce that Brother Geoff te Braake SJ will profess his Final Vows during Mass at 6.00pm on Saturday 25 July at Farm Street Church, London. The Mass will be celebrated by the Provincial of the Jesuits in Britain, Fr Peter Gallagher SJ, in front of parishioners and Jesuits alike.

For those who are unable to attend the ceremony in person, we warmly invite you to join us in spirit and prayer from afar. You can tune in here: Livestream — Farm Street Church.

Final Vows mark the culmination of Jesuit formation, bringing together years of prayer, discernment, study and apostolic ministry in a lifelong commitment to the Society of Jesus and its mission of serving faith and promoting justice.

As a Jesuit brother, Geoff shares the same religious vocation and professes the same vows of poverty, chastity and obedience as Jesuit priests. While brothers are not ordained to priestly ministry, they participate fully in the life and mission of the Society of Jesus, serving the Church in a wide range of ministries.

Originally from southern Africa, Geoff grew up in Harare, Johannesburg and East London before moving to England in 2000. After working as a software developer in London, he began exploring Ignatian spirituality through the Jesuit Centre at Mount Street (now the London Jesuit Centre), taking part in spiritual direction and the Christian Life Community. As his faith deepened, he began to discern a call to religious life.

Reflecting on that journey, Geoff said:

“I was thinking of being a religious brother. And then I met a Jesuit brother, and that was a sort of moment of recognition when I realised that I was spending time in a Jesuit institution and doing Ignatian spirituality things, and I was thinking about being a brother. And that was putting the two together.”

Watch Geoff reflect on his vocation as a Jesuit brother in this interview from the Jesuits in Britain YouTube channel:

Geoff entered the Society of Jesus in 2010 and professed his First Vows two years later. He went on to study philosophy and theology at Heythrop College in London before undertaking further study in sustainability and adaptation at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales. He has served in university chaplaincy and administration in Manchester and completed his tertianship in Sri Lanka, the final stage of Jesuit formation before Final Vows. Today, he serves the Jesuits in Britain as Province Decarbonisation Officer and Auditor of Houses.

Throughout his life, Geoff has nurtured a deep interest in the natural world and humanity’s relationship with the rest of creation. Although much of his experience has been shaped by living in cities, this interest continues to inform both his spirituality and his work.

We give thanks for Geoff’s generous response to God’s call and ask you to keep him in your prayers as he prepares to profess his Final Vows.
