In a Pentecost letter shared across the Society, Fr Sosa reflected on the challenges facing young people today and renewed the Jesuit commitment to walking alongside them as they seek hope, meaning and purpose.
“Our Third Apostolic Preference, given to us as a mission by Pope Francis in 2019 and confirmed by Pope Leo XIV, missions us to accompany young adults in their search for a hope-filled future,” he wrote.

The letter builds on work already underway to strengthen MAGIS, the international Ignatian network for young adults. Earlier this year, representatives from the Society’s six global conferences met in Rome to explore how MAGIS could develop as a more connected worldwide movement ahead of MAGIS Korea 2027 and World Youth Day in Seoul.
Among the practical steps outlined by Fr Sosa is the creation of a universal MAGIS network linking conference and provincial coordinators for young adult ministry. Each of the Society’s six conferences has now appointed a coordinator to help foster communication, collaboration and the sharing of resources across regions.
“Accompanying young people is a responsibility to be shared,” Fr Sosa wrote. “By working in partnership with each other, with lay people, dioceses, the Christian Life Community and religious congregations we can better respond to the diverse needs of youth.”
The Superior General also highlighted the launch of a new MAGIS Resources website and encouraged provinces to begin preparing for MAGIS Korea 2027 by expanding opportunities for young people to experience the Spiritual Exercises and other forms of Ignatian formation.
“A new website gives practical resources,” he wrote. “Ignatius had a genius for helping people to find God in their lives and, following his example, we want to do the same.”
In Britain, the Jesuit Institute has been working to make the Spiritual Exercises more accessible to a wider range of people. Its Hybrid Spiritual Exercises combine residential retreats with ongoing online spiritual direction, offering a flexible way to engage with St Ignatius’ foundational retreat while balancing the demands of daily life.
MAGIS Korea will take place from 25 July to 8 August 2027 in the lead-up to World Youth Day. Organisers hope around 1,000 young adults from around the world will participate in the gathering, which has adopted the theme “Living Hope and Igniting Peace”.
Many of the priorities outlined by Fr Sosa are already taking shape in the British Province. Earlier this year, young adults from Jesuit ministries in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Preston came together for the first Roma Ignaziana pilgrimage, strengthening connections between Jesuit young adult communities across Britain through prayer, formation and encounter with the Ignatian tradition.
Expressions of interest have also opened through MAGIS UK for young adults considering participation in MAGIS Korea 2027. You can register here.
Concluding his Pentecost message, Fr Sosa encouraged Jesuits and their partners in mission to approach the challenges of accompanying young adults with confidence and hope.
“Together, we will move to new frontiers,” he wrote. “Together, we will not be afraid of challenges but rather embrace them joyfully, knowing that frontier mission is at the heart of our Jesuit charism.”
