In Rome, Pope Leo XIV reminded the faithful that migrants and refugees are privileged witnesses of hope, urging communities to welcome and support those fleeing conflict, persecution, or poverty. Read more about the Rome celebrations on the Jesuits Global website here.
In Britain, Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) UK is helping refugees and migrants access vital support. Donations provide legal assistance, practical help, and a welcoming community for people seeking sanctuary. You can make a donation via the website here.
One inspiring story shared by the team at JRS UK is that of Nathaniel, a 29-year-old from Eritrea. After being refused asylum four times, he spent ten years living in destitution. Reflecting on the support he received, he says:
“Then I met JRS UK. They welcomed me with warmth and dignity. It felt like being cared for by family again. The legal team were able to take my case on and represent me at my appeal. My asylum case was eventually – finally – resolved.”
Nathaniel adds:
“I was finally recognised as a refugee, and I’m now able to move on with rebuilding my life. My dream is to work in housing one day.”
