The issue is dedicated to the memory of Sr Teresa White FCJ, a much-loved contributor to The Way who died at the end of 2025. Her insight that the divine can be encountered amid the ordinary realities of human life resonates throughout the edition.
In his foreword, editor Fr Phil Harrison SJ reflects on the life and witness of Madeleine Delbrêl, whose journey from atheism to faith revealed that God's love is discovered not apart from the world, but within it. Delbrêl believed that we are called to find God “in the world here and now”, a theme that runs throughout the issue.
The articles explore a wide range of spiritual, theological and contemporary questions. María Dolores López Guzmán examines the tears of St Ignatius Loyola and their role in his discernment, while David Clayton reflects on how Ignatius' experience of failure became a source of profound spiritual transformation.
Other contributors engage with pressing issues facing both the Church and society. Patrick Goujon considers how Ignatian spirituality can help shape a culture of safeguarding in response to the abuse crisis, while I-Fong Wu explores ecological conversion through the lens of the Spiritual Exercises. Patrick Riordan reflects on the place of humanity within creation, and Frances Murphy examines the relationship between evolutionary science and Christian theology.
The issue also includes reflections on scripture, discernment and accompaniment, alongside a tribute by Katherine O'Flynn to Teresa White and her lasting contribution to contemporary spirituality.
At a time when many people are searching for meaning amid uncertainty and change, this edition offers thoughtful reflections on how God's presence can be discovered in both the joys and struggles of everyday life.
