Campion Hall announces Jesuit Postdoctoral Fellowship for Outstanding Researcher in Formation

March 6, 2025

Campion Hall, the Jesuit Permanent Private Hall at the University of Oxford, is inviting applications for a two-year Jesuit Postdoctoral Fellowship. The position, set to begin on October 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter, offers a unique opportunity for a Jesuit in formation to contribute to the academic and community life at the Hall while advancing their research at an advanced level.

The selected Fellow will be expected to develop, execute, and manage their own research project, supported by a research allowance of up to £1,000. The fellowship is open to applicants from any academic discipline, with a preference for candidates who take a transdisciplinary approach to their work. Those with research interests in areas such as integral ecology, refugee studies, or the social sciences and humanities are particularly encouraged to apply.

In addition to their research duties, the Fellow will actively participate in the intellectual and communal life of Campion Hall, contributing to its academic programme and engaging with the local Oxford community as part of their outreach responsibilities.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be Jesuits in formation, typically pre-tertianship, and within three years of completing their doctoral degree, although exceptions may be made in cases of delayed progress. Candidates will also need to demonstrate a strong academic record and the ability to contribute to the Hall's outreach initiatives. The fellowship is open to candidates from around the world, subject to visa requirements.

Application Process: Those interested in applying should submit a supporting letter, curriculum vitae, and a 500-word research plan to the Senior Tutor, Dr. Sarah Apetrei, by the deadline of Friday, April 25, 2025. Interviews for the fellowship will take place during the week beginning May 5, 2025.

About Campion Hall: Founded in 1896, Campion Hall is renowned for its rich Jesuit tradition and its commitment to fostering a welcoming academic environment. With a focus on areas such as integral ecology, social justice, and spirituality, Campion Hall seeks to engage in research that promotes a vision of a reconciled humanity. It is home to the Laudato Si’ Research Institute, which is dedicated to building intellectual foundations for societal change toward greater care for the earth and the marginalized.
